Baker County has about 2 million acres of lands and about 1 million acres of it is public land. There are 2 national forests-the Malheur and the Wallowa-Whitman that cover over 650,000 acres in Baker County. Baker County sets between the Elkhorns to the West and the Wallowas to the Northeast. These 2 mountain ranges offer a network of Forest Service trails open to Hunting, Fishing, hikers, horseback riders, skiing, water sports and snowmobiling.
Hunting: Baker County has big game animals and upland birds. We have both mule and whitetail deer, Rocky Mountain elk, herds of pronghorn antelope, mountain goats and also bighorn sheep.
Fishing: Baker County has a wide variety of alpine lakes, Mason Dam at Phillips Reservoir, Snake River, Malheur Reservoir, Unity Reservoir, Brownlee Reservoir, Thief Valley Reservoir and many rivers and streams that are regularly stocked with trout.
